|
The
work of internationally acclaimed artist
Shahzia Sikander—which ranges
from meticulously drawn and painted works
on paper to animations and installations—is
collected and exhibited by many museums.
Sikander has created a new visual language
by combining the traditional techniques
of Indian and Persian miniature painting
with her own interests and styles. Both
recognizable and abstract, Sikander's unique
images allude to ideas about economics,
geography, identity, nationality, politics,
psychology, religion, spirituality, stereotypes,
and history, inviting the viewer to examine
the intersection of tradition and modern
life.
In this interview conducted by six teens,
we find out a lot more about Sikander,
her advice for young artists, why she doesn't
listen to music while she works, and why
she loves driving so much.
