My name is Sabita and I am 14 years old. I attend the
Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice and I have
a great passion for art. This is a sketch of the Seagram
house that is located in Manhattan. It was one of the
many sketches that we did on our first trip, an architectural
walking tour of Manhattan. It also happens to be one
of the sketches that I am most proud of.
On our architectural tour, we looked at several places,
including Paley Park, The American Telephone and Telegraph
Building (currently known as the Sony building), the
Chrysler Building, St. Patrick's Cathedral and of course
the Seagram house. I find the Seagram building to be
very magnificent because of the fact that the skeleton
of the building is visible.
I grew up in Trinidad so I was never really familiar
with these buildings before. The Seagram house, and
all the other buildings that we looked at, affected
my thinking of Architecture in many ways. Before I saw
Architecture to be just work but when we talked about
these buildings I started to realize how much more architecture
means. Architecture can really set the tone for a community
and the way people act and think. Throughout these classes
I both learned and accomplished a lot and, believe it
or not, from this one sketch I was inspired and began
to feel capable of accomplishing so much. |
