My name is Amad Uddin and I am an aspiring architect.
The reason I want to be an architect is that I am amazed
by the New York City skyline. My favorite activity as
an architect, besides sketching and drawing, is model
making. Since being introduced to the 3-D aspect of
architectue I like it more, because you get to see a
miniatue model of the building before it is built. My
goal is to go to a good college with an architectue
program and then to work for a firm that allows me to
travel to different places. Maybe I'll even start my
own firm someday.
The first thing I do when I am working is look at my
requirements. Then for ideas I like to take things from
previous styles of architecture. For instance, I'll
incorporate things from Roman architecture or Gothic
architecture or sometimes maybe something completely
abstract. Another thing I like to do is try to make
my structure fit and match with its suroundings. For
example, our class had a project on creating a youth
space. Most people created actual structures, while
I simply put two tent-like things on the trees and inside
them I put different chairs to distinguish it from the
rest of the park.
Currently I am working on a new entrance for the MoMA.
The requirements are to create an entrance that invites
people rather than intimidating them. Here, I will refer
back to artist Vito Acconci's ideas about how a structure
can make people behave a certain way. My ideas right
now are to make either an arch or an awning. |
