Architecture is an art because it incorporates design,
math skills, and drawing skills. Also no other type
of art requires all three as badly as this one. Those
skills must be at a balance. For example if you are
strong at math but have weak drawing skills, your balance
is off you need to improve and practice your art. It
needs to be balanced, like yin and yang.
For my design of Paley Park, I basically wanted it
to have all the comforts of home plus more. I wanted
it to create more of an illusion of a getaway and a
peaceful place than it already did. It needed to take
away from the busyness of New York City and make you
at easy and relaxed in the environment.
For this environment I needed both a seating and an
outside area. I did that by making a building around
the trees that would be used as a lounge, with chairs
and tables to eat on and a TV to play hit shows and
movies. Also there's a glass bridge that leads you to
the waterfall and lets you see the pool beneath. Last
is the sunroof at the top of the lounge that lets in
the light that breaks through the treetops.
In designing this space, I was inspired by the things
my friends and I do when we hang out. I thought about
what my friends and I would like to do and put it into
my design. First I thought of somewhere that plays music,
but it needed more. Then I added a lounge room and some
lights to shine against the waterfall. But still there
was something missing. So I added a see through bridge,
a huge widescreen TV, a dj request booth and a snack
bar and that was my fire star idea. |
