Everywhere you go you are held back, consciously or
subconsciously. Held back by people, ideas, gates, walls
– a barrier.
My work reflects back to that experience everyone has
gone through. Looking from the outside of a barred window,
different emotions and thoughts rise up. What is behind
the window? Why is there even a gate around the window?
Are the window and the things behind it fenced in? Or
are we fenced out? As these questions and feelings of
uncertainty and, possibly, even fear begin to formulate,
we must start to question ourselves. In a society where
differences hold us apart, a society where privacy tells
us what we can and canʼt see, a society where a simple
knot of wires define whatʼs yours and whatʼs mine, we
must ask ourselves, “Is it always necessary to place
barriers amongst people and separate them from one another?”
