To me, art is more than a class, a painting, or an
assemblage of different techniques under a name. Art
is all those things and more: it is expression, creativity,
benevolence, and malice of the world, of humanity as
a whole, or of one person's life. In my life, it is
how I see the world and the people and things around
me. I use my daily life as inspirations: a candid photo,
a doodle upon my physics notebook, my daily blog entries.
These things make up who I am, how I think, and what
I love in a compact piece of work. Photography and writing
are my fortes, but I believe all art holds endless possibilities.
For example, I decided to take a leap and apply for
something new this summer: printmaking. To be honest,
I was not a printmaking enthusiast before, but I did
want to learn something new. This decision has changed
my summer and exceeded all my expectations; these past
weeks have been relaxing, productive, and the most fun
since I don't know when. I now see the places I go to
differently, have the desire to attempt stenciling (my
favorite project) at home, and I may go street art hunting
in the future. Up until this summer, I only took math
and writing classes, but I find that math isn't something
I'm too interested in or passionate about, even if I
am slightly good at it. Art is not an equation that
a person can judge to be wrong if plugged in “incorrectly”.
No matter what, art will always have its criticisms
and lovers, but the fact that there is something in
life that leaves so many questions to be answered, so
many opportunities to be taken without being judged
to be “wrong” is very rare and precious. Printmaking
in particular has paved art's way through history, enabling
works to last longer than one painting would survive
on its own, while reaching out to the masses. Without
printmaking, who knows what brilliant works would have
been lost in the shifts of time. The most amazing thing
about art in general though, is how it isn't required:
no one is forced to create art. Art stems from an innate
passion to express oneself through producing something,
or even just criticizing it. Without this passion, the
world would lack of beauty, creativity and emotion.
Art is ever-changing, but a ubiquitous, eternal part
of life that no one is forced to accept. For this and
more, I love art and everything about it. |
