It all began at the age of four with my drawing an
arm that actually somewhat resembled the body part.
From then on, I constantly dabbed at drawing and painting.
My forte, however, was transferring/ drawing pictures
that were already completed by someone else. In a way,
it was my early attempt at appropriation. As years passed,
I took art classes and somehow managed to get accepted
for art LaGuardia High school. As I declined my acceptance,
my artistic mood declined as well and my interests leaned
more towards art studies and history. Some of the artists
that I admire are Jean-Michele Basquiat, Elizabeth Peyton,
Ralph Hassard, and Jackson Pollock. This summer, I was
introduced to many exciting aspects of art that I wasn?t
acquainted with before. For instance, I wasn?t even
aware that printmaking existed yet alone has a significant
place in the art world. At first I was skeptical about
the value of such prints yet, as the class continued
I started to appreciate their worth more and more. At
this point, my favorite printmaking technique is stenciling
because of the raw look of the final product. |
