My name is Weiying Guo. Why do I make art? I make art
because it doesn't need words. An artist gives information
and others can find many meanings in the art. It is
interesting.
Before I moved to New York from China I studied art
in high school. When I came to New York I met my teacher
Mr. Sinclair. He told me about many free art classes.
I have taken classes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
Cooper Union, and now MoMA summer in the making.
In the MoMA printmaking class I learned about linocut,
Etching, Lithography, Screenprint. The first class work
we did was the letter, everyone designed and cut it.
The letter was very hard to cut. When we finished carving
the linocuts, I printed twenty-two pieces. In the twenty-two
pieces I printed two different ways. When creating Xerox
transfers we used the oil, the smell was all over the
museum, and other people came in the room and always
said what it is the smell? I did another project using
stencils. The stencils is used was based on a photo
I took. I tried a lot of ways to print. In the printmaking
class everyone was making good prints, they had a lot
of ideas. So I got new ideas. Now I know that pictures
that one looked like drawings are actually print. Printmaking
is so magical. |
