What I like most about printmaking is how the process
shows in the product of my work. Each print is different,
because every time a picture was reprinted, I looked
at it in a different way. A favorite project in class
was one in which we made stencils from photographs.
I enjoyed cutting out stencils because instead of linearly
looking at a picture one must make a separate stencil
for the light and dark parts of the shape.
One of my favorite activities is watching. I love to
people watch, I love to cloud watch, I love to bird
watch–I even love to watch plants grow! This has been
the case for as much of my life as I can remember.
What I love about art is how it provides an outlet
to take part of what I observe and show it to the rest
of the world. When I make art I can take all of the
beautiful, or ugly, or terrifying times of life and
spotlight them. I think these are all of the moments
that string our lives together. And so, in reminding
us of these moments, making art serves to remind us
that we are alive. |
