In this class of architecture, we look at architecture through an artist’s point of view, for example: perspectives. When drawing a 3 dimensional object on a piece of paper, you don't only have to draw the front, but the sides, the top, or the bottom too. Knowing how to draw a perspective drawing can help when you have to draw a street that hasn’t been built.Drawing a building is another part of architecture that can be seen through an artist's eyes. There are different parts in drawing a building. There is plan, section, and elevation. Using a pepper instead of a building can help you understand. A plan would be looking straight at the floor from a bird’s eye view. Using the pepper, you would cut the pepper horizontally and draw it looking straight down at it. A section would be a drawing of the building being cut through the middle, like a cake. To make a section drawing, you would cut the pepper vertically and draw the inside of the pepper looking straight at it. Last would be the elevation. An elevation drawing would be the view of the outside of the building 2 dimensional. Using the pepper, you would put the pepper directly in front of your eyes and draw it. Model making is a big part of architecture. It is also something that an artist would use as their art work. There are many tools used in making a model. There’s the T-square, the 30, 60, 90 triangle and the 45, 45, 90 triangle, chip board, and more. Models can be made from different things to represent something in the actual building, for example, I use plastic around my model to show that the exterior part of the building will be glass. I also have chip board in the model. This shows where the walls would be. Architecture is a form of art that is needed today. There are buildings that need to be built, but can also be a form of art because of the distinctiveness of every building. In my opinion, I like using models more because they can help a lot in making a building. They are also fun to work with. Models are definitely a part of art. They can represent how the architect felt when he or she made the building. |
