When I first thought of architecture, I assumed that it would always be about buildings, houses, and stores. However, now I know that the Empire
State Building, the Sears Tower, or just simply my own two story house wasn't built without plans. As I explored architecture further at MoMA this summer, I discovered that it isnÕt always about how cool the building looks or how unique oneÕs house is. These buildings have to be built with structure and precision. Furthermore, it has to have section and elevation. Sectional drawings depict how a building would look like if it was cut like a cake. Elevation drawings are just what you see on the outside. This is how I learned that you have to make floor plans with exact measurements
and scaled models. I remembered that the first time I told my aunt about this program, she would laugh at me and say how dull and boring architecture was. But when I showed her how much I learned with models, floor plans, and famous architects like Frank Gehry who designed the Guggenheim museum at Bilbao, Spain. She was amazed at how much I knew about him. Now she encourages me to become an architect and even felt sorry for laughing me at me at the beginning. Architecture can be as complex as a 100-story building or just as simple as a one-story house. But I feel that architecture can be anything. You can express your emotions and display your own trademarks. When one designs a piece of architecture, one can also manipulate space, bricks, concrete, and even light. Sometimes, one can also learn how different architecture
can make them feel. When a building has a wide open space, it can make you feel specious, and bright. This is what makes an architectÕs
job fun. They have the ability to create art that are transformed intro an actual work where people can walk in and out. They can also choose how wide to make the beams, ceilings, or walls. Furthermore, anyone can be an architect. Even if it takes time, the obstacles can turn into opportunities. |
