Art creates a sense of peacefulness. Some people seek solace from like therapy, which others covert it obsessively like a drug. Right now, at the age of 17, I have next to no clue where I'm heading
in the future. Maybe I would be a writer, a doctor, a lawyer, a designer, or anything else. Nevertheless, Steven Heller, former art director of the New York Times Book Review, co-author, critic, journalist, etc. said that no matter which career path we follow, art is still a part of us. It is a passion within a person, like the urge to pick up a piece of pencil and doodle on your notebook paper during a boring class lecture on kinetics or a three-hour long staff meeting. Hence, our vocation doesn't have to directly relate with art. Art contributes to a great part of our society and personal lives. But what is the definition of art? Every person has a different way of interpretation. After participating in MoMA: In the Making program,
we also learn about art vs. design. Which is which? What is the distinction? I still have a very vague idea. Yet, I know that art and design comes hand in hand. The different names are just another evidence of our human tendency to organize everything into groups. In the end, design is a part of art, just like many things else. |
