When I first started the program In the Making: Summer at MoMA I thought it was going to be a bit hard for me since I wasn’t very skilled when it comes to drawing. I'm able to sketch but I can't draw off the type of my head. As time passed my drawing matured,
my friendship with my peers grew and the love I had for design expanded. Just before this program I was in a photography internship with Studio Museum in Harlem. During that time I only had love for photography and knew only about photography, but I wasn't a pro. Thanks to In the Making: Summer at MoMA, I have been exposed to other types of art in the area of Design such as people who were curators of shows in MoMA. This class has helped me learn how artist, companies and products advertise and show their products. When I think of design now, I don’t just observe the features of the object but how the artist got to that state. I wonder which product or object did they advance from and try to make it easier for one to use. The idea I am leaving with from In the Making: Summer at MoMA is when making an invention its not to make it better then another product, but to make it more convenient for others, creating a resolution of a problem.
Students reflect on what they’ve learned, review films, critique
architecture, and interview artists.
