In 1986, Ferris Bueller said "Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it," but then why, even in moments of the utmost ____, do so many people let design pass through their consciousness unnoticed. When we speak of "things" or "stuff" we are, weather intentionally or not, decreasing our own accepted value and appreciation for design. While the vision
of the artist or designer of an object might not always be apparent,
it is always there, hiding under layers of meticulous work, care and passion. Design not only ___ our cultural benchmarks, but defines out quotidian existence as well and therefore can never be confined to the walls of a museum. Programs like In The Making have the ability to open eyes and displaying design's ubiquity in all of us. Walking down the stairs. Taking the train. Watching a movie. Drinking water. Writing a letters. Sitting down. Reading a book. Sleeping.
Eating dinner. Listening to music. Wearing a dress. Holding a handbag. Throwing a ball. Telling time. Seeing with glasses. Mixing a salad. Pouring a drink. Typing an essay. Searching the internet. Peeling an apple. Carving a turkey. Zipping a jacket. Opening a door. Design is never absent. |
