After listening to the Red Studio podcast, we invite you to create your own podcast for your next visit to MoMA.
1. Find out what’s on view
at MoMA.
We encourage you to visit the Museum before
recording a podcast in order to become familiar
with the collection and location.
To see images of works in MoMA’s
collection online, search the Online
Collection. Check the "works that
are on view" option to select works
that are currently on display at the Museum
(please note that this list is subject to
change). Make a list of artworks you would
like to include on your podcast and download
printable images from the site.
2. Plan out what your podcast will
be about.
After you've researched the artworks you
would like to address, think about what
you want your podcast to convey. Some factors
to consider include:
- Writing: A good podcast
may sound like an informal and spontaneous
conversation, but most are written and
edited. A script also acts as a helpful
reminder of what to say when you are recording.
- Music and Sound Effects:
Audio is a great medium to tell stories.
Using music and sound effects can help
set a mood, signal a transition, or introduce
a new character. Listen to radio programs
and pay attention to how sounds are used
to support the story.
- Other teen podcasts:
Check out other museums’ teen podcasts
online, including Raw
Canvas Artlookers at Tate Modern,
and MuseRadio,
created by the Bronx Museum of the Arts’
Teen Council.
Here are some other suggestions to get
you started:
Write and record your thoughts about your favorite artist or work of art.
Record a poem you wrote about a work of art.
Record a commentary on a quote by your favorite artist.
Record a dramatic interpretation of a work of art.
Record an original piece of music related to a work of art.
Create a soundtrack for your favorite works of art, or create your own music for it.
Most importantly, be creative and have fun!
3. Record your own podcast and
download it to your MP3 player.
Recording audio is getting easier, thanks to portable recorders and MP3 devices. New software (some of it free) allows you to edit the sound on a computer and compress it to MP3 format.
Some helpful resources about audio recording
and podcasting can be found at:

4. Come to MoMA and listen to
your podcast using your MP3 player. Bring
your friends and have them listen too!
5.
If you would like to share your podcast
with MoMA, e-mail us at audio@moma.org.
MoMA will review submissions but reserves
the right not to post them. Please remember
that your podcast must not contain sound
recordings or other materials created by
others (i.e. copyrighted materials).
